Have you ever said "I love you first" ?

Have you ever said "I love you first" ?

Have you ever said "I love you" first?

Even when I knew I was in love long before "I love you's" were exchanged, and the words drifted to the tip of my tongue on several occasions, I held back.

Mostly because I'm a chicken and afraid of getting a crazy answer in return like "thank you." Gross. And don't forget the big "I love you" elephant in the room you're stuck with after that. No thank you.

There was one point when I thought about saying "I love you" first, and in my head, it went off without a hitch. I was that melodramatic girl in the movies who runs to his house in the pouring rain (because why would it be sunny?), bangs on his door (which he answers shirtless, of course) and professes my undying love for him...in which he returns the sentiments and then credits roll. Obviously.

But we all know life isn't a Ryan Gosling movie...

Saying "I love you" first can be good or bad. You're either lucky and get positive feedback or you're left feeling hurt if you don't hear what you want to. Yikes.

So tell me about your "I love you" stories. Have you ever been the first to say it and what happened?

  3. Totally. When he sounded weirded out I totally pulled the "...as a person, you're so great!"

  5. I could never do it! I've said it four times and never first. I am a total chicken! I'm also curious what the average amount of times is that girls say I love you? I have friends who have said it to A LOT of boyfriends and friends who have only said it once or twice.

  6. I have dated a few ladies who are so quick to say I love you, I don't know what to say in return, like after just a week or so together. I think when I was really young I might have thrown it around like that, and maybe even said it first...the last thing I want these days though if I am in love with a lady, is to scare them off.

    1. I'm not so sure I'd know what to say either! I feel like when you're younger, you do confuse and use it more casually. Because when you're older, saying those three words has a lot more behind it.
